For 3 years, Parliament has done everything it can to overturn what we voted for.

Now, Boris will deliver on that democratic decision using parliamentary tools because of the parliamentary saboteurs of democracy, those who mis-represent their constituents, continue to plot against an elected government, an elected prime minister and a mandate from the people.

Go Boris you magnificent man !

Watch the polls go up in favour of Boris now .... and what on earth will Corbyn be in favour of at his party conference

How many times do we have to explain ourselves to that

Boris is quite in order to use clever tricks to prevail considering
all the crap we have had to put up with from POSHOC and
the remain camp in general for the last 3yrs!!

The bigoted remainers refuse to see both sides of the argument.

It's all very odd.

I hope BJ is able to carry out his intention . The UK is suffering a slow death due a lack of investment caused by 3 years of indecision due to awkward people who refuse to accept the will of the majority referendum vote .

Re: Breaking - Boris Shutsdown Parliament ..

So this right wing coup shows its true colours! The first whiff of organised democratic opposition to Boris et al and they do this. This is the biggest period of constitutional emergency since the war, so any talk of this as “ordinary” is just taking the p..s (you just had to listen to IDS laughing away on Radio 4 this motto realise that). There is a word for this which also begins with “D” and it isn’t Democracy. Is it any wonder I would like to see Scotland free of Westminster and it’s repulsive games!

....and the alliance of Remain-supporting MPs are showing their true colours pretending to believe in democracy while choosing to ignore the will of the majority referendum vote.

Re: Breaking - Boris Shutsdown Parliament ..

Prorogation has historically been used by Attlee, Major and Canadian PM Stephen Harper for political purposes. The move is even less surprising when taking into account the UK is currently enjoying the longest Parliamentary session ever since 1653, so a Queen’s Speech is long overdue.

Whilst everyone else is losing their heads, Guido thought it would be helpful to remind everyone that John Major’s prorogation – which he used to cover up the cash for questions scandal – lasted from the March 21 until the 1997 General Election: a period of 6 weeks, compare this to today’s announced prorogation that will result in Parliament losing only 4 sitting days. One rule for remainers, another for Boris.

Govt's strategy is both in order & legal. Prorogation always precedes a Queen's Speech. A bit rich for born again democrat Remainers to whinge about hardball tactics when they have traduced and bent our constitutional settlement & conventions in the last two years to thwart Bexit

Re: Breaking - Boris Shutsdown Parliament ..

More information...

BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond said the precedent was for Parliament to be suspended before a Queen's Speech, and it would be "impossible" for the Queen to reject the government's request to do so now.

He said that convention lifted the pressure off the Queen and to some degree, in some people's eyes, depoliticises it.

"The fundamental is that the Queen acts on the advice of her ministers - in particular, on the advice of her prime minister," he added.

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said only a small number of government ministers knew about the plan in advance, but the government would argue it was "a bog standard Queen's Speech process", despite all of the surrounding noise.

A few Remain supporting MPs and Speaker Berkow are having a temper tantrum about the proposed measure but it all sounds pretty sensible to me.

Question for you, Meg.

Does the shut down of parliament also mean its extremely difficult for the withdrawal bill to be voted on again in parliament? I think it does but I'm interested in your thoughts .... ?
