Brexit Day Bill from EU?

UK recieved a £1B surcharge invoice from the EU on brexit day?
I have been trying to unravel how this bill was generated, and it
seems that if a member countries GNI (gross national income)
goes up during the current year, then the eu imposes a surcharge
on that country, which is then supposedly shared amongst the
the other member states! Apparently the UK is in this position?
Conversely, if a member countries GNI goes down, then that
country recieves a rebate?
This is a complex system sometimes involving paying into and
also recieving from the system in the same year??
I hope we actually have managed to uncouple ourselves from this
tangle of bureaucracy and confusion!

They are trying to tax the success of Brexit

More desparate measures to try and avoid the obvious. Increasing the EU budget means austerity for Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland etc.

Indeed donks, this has been the system since the days of founding. The annual membership dues are based on expected economic development. These dues are payed in monthly advanced payments and at the end of the year the actual economic development determines what the dues should have been. And as you describe, either money is returned or an extra "bill" is send.
So, if brexiters are right, and you will do great in 2020, in january next year an extra bill will land on the doormat of number 10.

You must be living on the brink of poverty, having such a mindset! As shown before, the UK's contribution of £10 bn divided over the half bn citizens of the EU would mean everybody would pay an annual amount of £20 or 5 cent a day. If that is your definition of austerity, it explains a lot of your posts!

More like tax success of any sort to support the as yet unsuccessful
members of the club Bread!
Ths is fine if it takes place within a nation, but within a group of
nations, it will allways cause friction, especially when the successful
nations start slipping downwards?
Far better to link the contributions to the amount of exports to the
group by the donor country, call it return on investment?
But far better not to be within any group at allimo!!

The EU is almost bust.

Even now, Christine Lagarde is trying to change the calculations used to determine the Eurozone level of inflation because they still can't get anywhere near the 2% they promised. Expect more lies from the convicted criminal that runs the mafias central bank

I now know your definition of austerity. Economic decline in your conception will be of similar laughable design.

You mean you can't even follow such a simple calculation? Better not go into any business with your ability to calculate.

If UK had no trade at all with the wider world Solly, we could not
afford to be a member of the EU, as can be seen from our trade
figures between UK& EU!
What has been happening up till now is that our world trade has
subsidised our EU membership costs!
When you take this fact and add on the price of having 80% of our
fishing stolen as well, you can see why people like me are so happy
to escape the spider web of the EU??

That is what tarifs do. Now why do you think the UK was cherrypicking to stay in the CU and get free trade, if simple tarifs would restore the balance?
