Some optimism on the Coronavirus

Medical scientists at the Dougherty Institute in Melbourne have successfully re-created the Coronavirus in a laboratory. The first time it has been done outside China. This is an important beginning to beating this thing. See attached on radio report and one TV report from ABC. China is not sharing information or copies of the virus. Because of this it had to be recreated in order to make copies to send to the WHO. IT is an international disease now so the WHO has to oversee and approve all research findings. One important thing that can be done now – without China’s help – is that more information can be gleaned about how the virus is spread. Also people who have the virus but no symptoms can be identified. This is a really momentous step.

Re: Some optimism on the Coronavirus

But the much bigger problem will be creating an anti-virus vaccine. That could take years.

Yes well this work will hopefully - as the reports state - reduce that time considerably. This had to be done by somebody because for reasons only known to themselves, the Chinese are not sharing their research in full with the WHO. It kind of begs the question why do you think?..This team has supplied the missing information.

I thought the Coronavirus is just another name for the cold virus? Someone had developed what they thought was a vaccine for that, but it was still being tested.

The latest report from China states, 132 deaths so far. 5 confirmed cases in the U.S. , including one only a few miles from me. The TV news showed one of the U.S. patients being rolled into an entirely secluded hospital wing, encased in a large tube-like plastic container. Seems like the health department and hospital are taking this coronavirus flu extremely seriously.

Well done Australia but it may still take years for a vaccine to become available.

Could be a big step forward KZ, lets hope so! But was this patient
they got the sample from evacuated from china under isolation
conditions, or did they just arrive back in OZ under their own
steam and then fall ill?
I see today 600 ozzie citizens have been landed on Christmas
Island as a precaution before allowing them into OZ?
Looks like Scott is taking this seriously!
Regards Donkeyman!

Well fingers crossed. And yes Morrison needs to shift up a gear or two now that he's back from Hawaii.
