3. Use a lower point of view
4. Use a diffused flash straight on and not on the left
5. Without seeing the EXIF files, there are spots around the leaves. Did you shoot spot or matrix?
6. Remove the base of the pot - distracts from the shot

1=it is the shadows I wanted in the picture as well
2=the spots if you look closer are reflections off the leaves. they follow leaf shapes.
3=I had a chair in front of the camera hence the higher up shot
4= it was the side remote flash to produce a different look from head on

5= the Boss would kill me if I removed the base and got the tablecloth marked
6 = side on lighting makes it stand away from the background, ie window blind
7= head on all the leaves would show up equally, something I wanted to avoid
8 having the plant whet it is shows the situation it is in, moved closer and I would loose the table cloth which is part of the idea

So it all depends on the "Look" you want in a photo. It is exactly what I was after having had many attempts at it

Thanks yes I was pleased with the colourful capsules. I fiddled around with flash but in the end shot without it. The result was dull but I brightened it up in PP.

Re: New Challenge - Still Life

I took this photo ages ago for somewhere that didn't allow large images. I wish I'd saved it at a larger size ..but didn't. The definition isn't so good because it has been enlarged from 240 x 320 pixels. Not bad considering that I suppose.

Sometimes, natural light is far better than fill-in flash. It is down to the skill of the photographer to ascertain the situation and capture the shot - with or without a remote trigger

Shame that you didn't keep the larger file, then you could have run it through an editing suite to bring out more definition. However, the natural light from the left shining through the glass adds to the shot.
