Nationalising the Railways

Branson has built his business empire with millions from you, me and other taxpayers.

Well, last Friday a report was published that, I'm sorry to say, proves me wrong. He's an even bigger subsidy junkie than I thought........................................... ..only way Branson and the vast majority of train barons make their profits is through handouts from the taxpayer. And while you may know about the direct payments taken by Virgin and others, the Cresc team has also analysed another, indirect transfer from the public purse to private hands. By now, it's worth £30bn – yet it is barely acknowledged either by Network Rail or Westminster.

Just nationalise them and be done.

Bollocks, it would cost more to Nationalise them than any savings.

That is sheer stupidity.

If we want to make a difference, scrap HS2 and buy out PFI in the NHS.

A huge boost to the NHS at no extra cost.

Why would it cost more, at least one rail area is already nationalised because the company in that area failed so badly.

Some things we shouldn't make profit out of and our transport system is one of them IMO

There's a very simple way of nationalising the railways without it costing anything - do it without paying compensation, since Thatcher (phth, phth, phth) stole it from us without us receiving compensation in the first place!!!

It appears that we are subsidising the railways anyway, what is the difference ?
I would scrap HS2 and bring them back into public ownership.
According to the article and what I have seen from other sources, just like the NHS, privatisation is just another cash cow for a few......and not a resource for the many.
