What's wrong with my computer?

my computer:- MS W8 updated to W10, Chrome browser.

Since yesterday the scroll bar has been sticking, sometimes refusing to move for 2 or 3 seconds.

As I type this, most letter appear immediately, but not all. Again, there's sometimes a 2 or 3 second delay.

As I'm testing the scroll bar, trying to move fast up & down, sometimes grey squares appear for a few seconds. I managed to snip one ... here ...

I've tried restarting, tried another browser, Opera, still not scrolling properly but no sign of the grey squares.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

Is it doing it while connected to the internet using WiFi d00d?
I have had all sorts of problems with windows 10 dropping off the internet while on the forum. The problem seems to go away when my laptop is connected to the mains or ethernet cable. The WiFi adaptor has to be reset each time.
I also use google chrome.

Have you given the cache / ram a clean out?
Could be running low on virtual memory.

Cheers, no, I have it wired up to the modem (BT Home Hub).

My laptop is behaving well, and that's used wirelessly around the house.

Right, I've run malwarebytes free, avira free and ccleaner free, and it's still no better.

Off to remove some programs.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

A couple of other things you could try:

Go to 'All Settings' and type background apps into the search box. From the suggestions, select 'Choose which apps can run in the background'. Turn off any apps that you think don't need to be running in the background.

Go into Task Manager and click the Start-up tab. Disable any programs you think don't need to running when the computer starts up.

Thanks Mart

30 odd background apps, 90% are no longer

Not so many Startup progs, but disabled a couple.

... not sure I've solve the problem.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

The computer will need to be restarted before many of the changes take effect. Has that been done?

Has any software been installed recently, or any other changes made to the computer just prior to the problem starting?

I note the system has been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10. Then there may have been other updates after that.

I never have thought upgrading on and older OS is as good as clean installing when doing a major version upgrade. If nothing else helps, the computer might benefit from a clean installation of the OS and all software ..if you can face it.
