Would You Use Two Years Out Of Date Dried Dates?

I decided to make a date and walnut cake but noticed the dried dates were two years out of date.
Well l ummed and ahhed, even let the dried dates soak in hot water.... but l decided not to use them and made a cherry and walnut cake instead.

I thought l would show you it as it came out beautifully and tastes gorgeous, especially with a nice cup of tea!

Anyway, would you have used the two year old dried dates?

Not worth the risk.

FWIW...........

"Dried dates can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months or the refrigerator for up to a year."

No, I'd not have used them.
Your cake looks scrumptious, Artie.

The cake looks yummy Art

I wouldn't use the dates either
They would probably be fine but I feel it's not worth going to all the trouble of making something to have it spoilt by an ingredient.

I fed my kids 12 year out of date Vegemite when they were at school and they prospered so you'll be fine.

Besoeker, l did read today that l could have frozen the dates and walnuts too.
I wish l had known that before as l would never have dreamt of freezing them, especially nuts.
