Re: Rod Stewart. Fan or no fan?

I like some of his early stuff like Maggie May / You wear it well / The killing of George etc, but that's about it really.

His father was Scottish and had been a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh, while Elsie was English and had grown up in Upper Holloway in North London. Married in 1928, the couple had two sons and two daughters while living in Scotland, and then they moved to Highgate. Stewart came after an eight-year gap following his youngest sibling; he was born at home during World War II.

So' I'd guess that his father and siblings all had Scottish birth certificates and accents - that may have influenced him .....

Re: Rod Stewart. Fan or no fan?

He was king for a couple of years in my life ...

1969 - An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down
1970 - Gasoline Alley
1971 - Every Picture Tells a Story
1972 - Never a Dull Moment

... not necessarily in that order, fabulous stuff.

Re: Rod Stewart. Fan or no fan?

Much to say about RS but wont, Maggie May was IMO the only great record he did.

Re: Rod Stewart. Fan or no fan?

he was okay in the early days but once he started to believe in his image more than his music he started to become increasingly annoying and unlistenable in my opinion. His predilection for doing massively inferior covers of Tom Waits songs was the final nail in the coffin.

Like most here I prefer his early stuff particularly with Faces.
This is one of the best ever rock songs:

Thanks Omah.

Apparently Mrs LD used to see him perform at a club in London before he became famous.
