Re: Greatest guitar solos

My friend used to work in a guitar shop for about 25 years.

Guitarists used to come in all the time and always ask "I want to sound like XYZ" and then the guitars would come off the wall and the amps fired up etc.

The most popular request to sound like .... guess who you think it would be ?

Jimmy Page ? ... no

Eddie Van Halen ? ... no

Eric Clapton ? ... no

Joe Satriani ? ... no

Steve Vai ? ... no

the most frequently asked was none other than, Hank Marvin. Another truly amazing player.

Re: Greatest guitar solos

I think I'd demand to sound like Jimi Hendrix.

The late, great Mick Ronson. Here with Bowie in the early 70's:

Blimey ... what a performance

... but he was so much more than just another rock guitarist ....

Re: Greatest guitar solos

OK, having given this much thought, this is probably the greatest guitar solo ever, because, there ain't a cool Bird out there, who would not be seduced by it, such artistry, and such female tension, a heady combination.

The Spiders From Mars in all their glory there, d00d. More than just Bowie's backing band

They all learned from Hank, Bert Weedon and Duane Eddy.
Then came Clapton, Beck, Jimmy and Jimi...
