I berate her constantly for using it. I tell her that someone really disabled might need the space you are abusing. She never changes though.

Even when there are tons of ordinary spaces, she just zips straight into the yellow disabled bays. Like I said, its like VIP status for her.

The government should properly means test everyone with a blue badge.
If she has a disabled husband he is the one authorised to have one because he qualifys for certain disabled benefits . Is he doing the shopping with her or does he sit in the car?

Re: Blue Badge Scheme Changes

If not done already, all blue badges should have the face of the recipient on them so that they can be checked by police or `parking officers` to make sure it's being used correctly and not abused by some family member or friend.

So far as I’m aware you have to submit a passport size photo with your application and that’s shown on the badge itself .

that is correct..... and it's on the reverse side of the badge and has to be shown if requested by a traffic warden etc.

If the Blue Badge entitlement is going to be expanded to include non-physically disabled people, further parking spaces ought to be allotted in addition to the existing wide spaces. Otherwise a lot of wheelchair users will stand even less chance of finding a wide disabled parking space than they already do.

Have car parks got the room for more Blue Badge spaces?
But it’s not just about car parks is it ?
Too ,those classed with hidden disabilities won’t need wide spaces ?

No they won't and that's the point. If the only Blue Badge spaces available in car parks are wide ones (as they are at present) and people with hidden disabilities can use these as well, there'll be fewer spaces available for wheelchair users who really need those wide parking bays.

That's why I suggest that, if people with hidden disabilities are to be given Blue Badges, spaces in addition to those that already exist would need to be allotted. No need for them to be wide ones but I wonder just how many Blue Badge places can a car park provide?

Re: Blue Badge Scheme Changes

The FIL takes about 3 minutes to get out of his Bungalow to the car using two walking sticks. His Blue Badge was applied for on the 6th of April, and the Twelve Week period for assessment is up on the 30th of June, @ 87 years old, he may never see his Blue Badge.

You would know that how ?

Most parents of children with degrees of autism it's hoped will have applied for benefits for them sometime during their lives .
As for adults , explanations are contained within this link .
