I bet it's crammed full of politically correct messages trying to "educate" us all though?

Re: Beacham House

Seen the first two episodes, now.

It's very good, isn't it?

Beautiful setting, and an interesting historical subject.

I didn't know much about the East India Company until I watched the "Taboo" serial, ( last year, was it?), which was an eye-opener, so this is a good follow-on from that.

Also nice to see a series about someone with a conscience. So many films, series, etc. dwell on the nastier aspects of people, so it's a refreshing change from all that.

Going to watch it later on catchup I heard Gurinder Chadha the writer /film director talking about it on Woman's Hour a while ago and it sounded like an Indian Downton Abbey.

You're right, it is a bit slow, and it was slated for that a bit in the Radio Times. However, as far as I'm concerned, that means I can look at the scenery and the costumes more closely, without the drama being too frenetic.

It's good to keep us guessing for a bit, anyway!

It's so unusual, though, that I will forgive any directing shortcomings that there might be!

Talking about Indian dramas, does anyone remember The Far Pavilions, many years ago?
Starring Ben .Cross and a monumental cast..... (1984! Crumbs!)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086711/
I really enjoyed that at the time.

The other big one, of course, was The Jewel in the Crown.
I wish they would repeat that.

I certainly agree with that description, Muddy.

Don't really get the story yet though.
