some samples contained dna from as many as four different animals, while others contained no trace of the meat that appeared on the product's label

Doesn't surprise or worry me much to be honest.

Reminds me of the Tesco horse meat scandal of 2013.

I don't see how we can beware of it though. There's no way we can test it.

Nothing is really safe. So I agree with Sweetie Pie. All of life's problems can be solved with chocolate.

I think the reason that we try to introduce standards, particularly in food is to ensure it's safe consumption. However there will always be those who wish to bend the rules, to take short cuts and increase profit margins. Thus we do have vigilant lobby groups who test and check and watch and report. Bending the rules is not a practice that will ever go away. there will always be devious businesses and business persons who wish to bend the rules to make an extra buck.

I think getting to know your local consumer groups or even joining them is a worthwhile option?

There are only two butchers that I deal with - one in the village and on in town. Both of them sell locally produced meat and poultry. It is always fresh and wholesome. I would never - ever - buy meat, fish or poultry from a supermarket.
