...although the program has a lot to do with it.
Vector drawings consist of a number of separate objects that all sit on top of each other.
It isn't necessary to draw each link. A single link can be duplicated and duplicated until there are enough.
They aren't linked at all to start with but just arranged around the edge of the shield. Then, the area that needs linking is selected and the clever program kind of 'drills' down through the top object to the one below ..but only in the selected part.
It brings that part of the lower object to the top and the whole thing appears as a link. Do that over and over until there's a circle of links.
It's possible to see where the selected areas are by taking all of the rendering (colour) away, just leaving the outlines of the objects showing (called the 'wireframe' view). Each one of the small circles/oblongs are where I selected the chain inks to be made and where the program has drilled down through the top object in order show the selected part of the lower object. Clever program!
