Flowers can 'hear' Bees

Scientists from Israel have discovered that Evening Primrose flowers can make sweeter nectar when they hear bees buzzing approaching.

They tested the flowers by playing different sounds near them, including recordings of bees, and other artificial noises.

They collected the nectar from these flowers before and after each sound, and found that within three minutes of the flowers hearing bees, they were producing nectar which was 20% sweeter.

Who would have thought that flowers can hear!
So watch your language in the garden!

Re: Flowers can 'hear' Bees

There have been studies done on plants. Apparently plants even have musical preference. A university study done showed that plants preferred soft classical music to harsh rock. In the room with soft classical music the plants grew towards the speakers. In the room with the rock music, the plants grew away from the speakers. It was a very interesting documentary.

It showed that plants sense the atmosphere around them.
I found it very interesting because I’ve always thought every living thing can feel.

I remember years ago watching a programme where they somehow managed to record a tomato scream when it was sliced into....same with other fruits and veggies too. Not sure I want to know to be honest ...it could become quite traumatic preparing a salad .
