Re: What's wrong with my computer?

I would have kept windows 8 d00d....I'm still running Vista and windows 7 on two of my other computers and don't have so many problems on them as I do with windows 10 Although it's helluva lot faster.....

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

Anyway ... all's well ... she's currently running smoothly.

Thanks guys.

Not least Mart.

I had another look at Task Manager, under the Processes tab my CPU was 100%, looked down the list and found a thing called hp touchpoint analytics client at 90%, right clicked, clicked End Task. And that did it!

Well done d00d, that was a good find. Did you go on to disable it permanently in 'Services', as suggested at the bottom of the article you linked to?

I read it comes in as part of the HP Support Assistant. As fortune has it, I have an HP laptop computer that I bought second-hand. This came with Windows 8 on it but I upgraded it to Windows 10 and then clean installed Windows 10 to give the computer better performance. Still a bit slow but not too bad.

The relevant part is that after I clean installed Windows 10, the computer didn't need any extra HP software installing, such as the Support Assistant. Microsoft gave the laptop all it needed to run properly, including the fingerprint recognition software.

If you ever did feel the need to reinstall the OS, rather than use any restore procedure provided by HP, it might be better to download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft site and use that instead. There'd be no unnecessary HP extras then.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

Not disabled permanently yet, but probably will do.

She's running well now and hopefully will for another couple of years, then I'll get a new one. Hopefully won't feel the need to reinstall the OS ... or anything.

I've had the odd PC problem in the past, and talking about it on a forum like this really helps. Even if I do eventually work it out for myself, input from others is always good.

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

I looked up your error symptoms in my book of MS errors and there was a match:

Error 518

"Wally found where computer user was expected"

Re: What's wrong with my computer?

dood, I get that little square when scrolling too. Not all the time. Odd.
I'm Windows 8 and Google Chrome.

MY internet keeps spiking and cutting out, which is SO irritating.

The laptops been running slow and freezing so I deleted a fair few things, checked the Task Manager, nothing untoward. I've got it into my head it's something to do with Avast - but anyway, the last couple of days it's been ok.

I don't know Pesta,

Our resident "Realist" (sic) might know. I've had enough.
