Re: Wise words and Inspiring quotations...

It was my neighbours funeral the other day which took the form of a humanist celebration of his life with music and readings.
There was an 'Order of service' with photographs and this quotation from Ray Bradbury's Novel which I thought was rather appropriate for the occasion . I don't recall hearing it before

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there.

It doesn't matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.”

Re: Wise words and Inspiring quotations...

Meg, I really like that, thanks.

The line I use for my signature - "Leave things a little better than you find them" - was something a friend often said. He was always picking up a bit of litter, pulling a weed, cleaning or tidying something even if he wasn't responsible for it. He passed away a few years ago and I think of him almost every day because now it's become a habit of mine too.

Re: Wise words and Inspiring quotations...

This was something a friend of mine gave me earlier this year and was used in the order of service at my Mother's funeral in March.

AFTERGLOW

I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.

Both the Bradbury quote and the Afterglow are very moving. That got me thinking of the Japanese maple I planted at my former house ... that's a lovely thing to leave behind ......

Re: Wise words and Inspiring quotations...

These words I have found to be so true in my life...so true and are very special.

People always come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.
When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
or to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
This person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away.
Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON,
It is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall,
The season eventually ends.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
Those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people
And put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.
Thank you for being part of my life...........

Paddle faster - I hear banjos!

and - most people are afraid of heights. Me, I'm scared of widths.

I find these work for me in difficult times ....
