Coronavirus: The Disppearing Cases

The last time that I checked, 29 Jun 2020, Cases were 311,965 and Deaths were 43,575.

Today the figures are Cases: 283,757 and Deaths: 43,995

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

A note reads:

"We have updated the methodology of reporting positive cases, to remove duplicates within and across pillars 1 and 2, to ensure that a person who tests positive is only counted once. Methodologies between nations differ and we will be making future revisions to align approaches as much as possible across the 4 nations.Due to this change, and a revision of historical data in pillar 1, the cumulative total for positive cases is 30,302 lower than if you added the daily figure to yesterday’s total. We will revise the methodology note explaining this in more detail in due course"

I think 'Skulduggery' is afoot.....What else are they wrong about; Bear in mind that millions of people have adjusted their lifestyle on the strength of these statistics....

You can't believe anything can you. Yes, we do have Covid 19 here, but no one knows for sure how many have it in any one area. It says we have none, 2 people died & no cases at present, but can you believe it's that & is right. You can't!!!!!

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across Devon has risen to 2,111 with Devon CC having 1,185, Plymouth 654 and Torbay 272.

However, Devon's number of new cases in the last week remains very low.

Re: Coronavirus: The Disppearing Cases

What are Pillar 1 and Pillar 2?

https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/ne...illar-18527756

Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 are different kinds of data taken from coronavirus testing.

Swab tests for Covid-19 are carried out in hospitals and surgeries as well as in the community all the time.

Each pillar comes with specific coverage goals and a set purpose from one or several organisations.
  • Pillar 1 data comes solely from the tests carried out in Public Health England (PHE) lab and NHS hospital settings.
  • Pillar 2 tests come from out in the community, such as care homes.

According to the Government's national testing strategy site, Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 both use swab testing.

Why does it matter?

It is part of having a coronavirus response that stops the spread but allows the economy to start to mend itself.

Depending on which method local authorities base their infections on, they may also come up with different results.

What are Pillar 3 and 4?

This is data from tests that are not from swabs but rather using serology (blood testing) for in-depth study of the virus.

According to the Government, the third tier uses data to test whether people have formed antibodies from the virus.

Pillar 4 uses serology to "learn more about the prevalence and spread of the virus and for other testing research purposes".
That explanation make the difference somewhat clearer but the use of "pillars" still seems intended to obfuscate and confuse .....

Hi

Our approach has been disastrous.

We have not covered ourselves in Glory.

The blame game is about to begin.

Indeed you have:

The number of Isle of Wight Covid-19 Cases have just gone up considerably.

https://onthewight.com/the-number-of...bly-heres-why/

The true number of confirmed Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on the Isle of Wight has finally been revealed with the release of Pillar 2 test data.

The Isle of Wight’s confirmed Covid-19 cases have increased from 204 to 420 – more than double the previous figures.

Previously Public Health England was only releasing Pillar 1 data each day (these are tests carried out in hospitals. The release of Pillar 2 testing ensures that testing via home test kits, drive through etc will now be included in the daily figures released by Public Health England.

Does this include the care home data?

News OnTheWight has been seeking clarification from Public Health Isle of Wight for four weeks as to whether a reference in council papers to 178 C19 cases in care homes were part of the daily (Pillar 1) PHE data.

It is likely that the 178 are part of the new increase, but as the council and Public Health IW have still failed to answer the very simple question, readers can only guess.
There's still too much confusion over figures .....

Re: Coronavirus: The Disppearing Cases

Thanks, but it doesn't really help Omah, Devon is a very large county. I have my area in my bookmarks, but I don't think it's accurate at all. I am going nowhere til we see what happens in a couple of weeks time, even then maybe not.
BTW I don't know of anyone who has had it here or who still has it, no one I know has it or has had it.
