You are incredibly uniformed and belligerent in that ignorance. Fires caused by washing machines and tumble dryers are extremely common.

https://www.which.co.uk/news/2018/02...pliance-fires/

"Our analysis, looking at fire data obtained through Freedom of Information requests, reveals that the number of fires has stayed at a similar level for five years, with malfunctioning kitchen appliances reportedly causing close to 16,000 potentially deadly fires across the UK since 1 April 2012."

"Fires caused by faulty washing machines and tumble dryers account for more than a third (35%) of this overall number, meaning these two appliances cause more than 20 fires per week on average. Other high-risk appliances for the same period include cookers and ovens (11%), dishwashers (10%) and fridges, freezers and fridge-freezers (8%)."

and this:

https://inews.co.uk/news/faulty-wash...-number-fires/

"Faulty white goods such as washing machines, tumble dryers and fridge freezers are causing more than 60 house fires a week, analysis has revealed"

The idea of using Smart Meters and running such appliances through the night whilst you are asleep is absurdly dangerous. Enough so that fire services are greatly concerned. As per this article for example:

Using your washing machine at night could cost you your life: Firefighters warn over plan to charge different rates at different times of day

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...times-day.html

"Millions of lives will be put at risk by plans to offer all families cheaper energy during the night, firefighters say."

"fire experts have serious concerns about the idea. The Chief Fire Officers Association says it was never consulted on whether it is safe to do so.

It warns that running electrical appliances while you are asleep will put your family at greater risk of being trapped by fire."

"Andy Reynolds, electrical safety expert for the association, says: 'Never leave a tumble dryer, washing machine or dishwasher running when you have gone to bed or have left the house unoccupied"

CHESHIRE FIRE SERVICE

http://www.cheshirefire.gov.uk/publi...er-fire-safety

"Some fire safety tips for the safe use of washing machines or dishwashers:

• Don't leave the washing machine or dishwasher running overnight or while you are out.

• They are a fire risk because of their high wattage, friction and motors."

Same message is seen on just about every fire service website.

More here to refute your silly claim of "absurdity"

https://www.theguardian.com/money/20...ills-fire-risk

"“We understand a balance needs to be struck between energy use, green issues and fuel costs, but in our view you can’t put a price on fire safety. If a fire breaks out during the night, whatever the cause, the risk to life is always greater as it is very likely people will be asleep and have less time to react and escape,” an LFB spokesman says.

Dave Green, Fire Brigades Union national officer, says: “Fires in the home at night can go unnoticed for far longer, and can therefore spread more rapidly. We always advise the public to turn off electrical products that are not being used. In particular tumble dryers that have been blamed for a number of fatal fires over the past few years.”

The most recent assessment of fire statistics was published by the government in June 2014, and shows that the most common time for fires to be reported is 8pm-9pm (the one-hour period accounting for 9% of all fires). While only 11% of fires occurred in the five hours between midnight and 5am, these caused a fifth of all deaths in Great Britain in 2013-14. "

Re: Providers WON'T Install Smart Meters

Bottom line then is very simple.

SMART METERS are NOT going to deliver the magical dream of lowering or spreading out energy usage across a nation.

That notion is purely a load of smoke and mirror bunkum to try and placate a naïve public and get them to accept a Smart Meter.

Analysis of people's habits in the USA revealed that after a very brief "honeymoon" period with a Smart Meter, the novelty quickly wore off and people soon reverted back to their normal energy using habits.

Smart Meters are not going to save the planet.

They exist for one reason only, to enable energy providers to charge us far far more for our energy.

So according to your figures the chance of your washing machine or tumble dryer causing a fire are 20 in 27 million? That's a definition of "extremely common" that I haven't come across before.

Yeah your figures are really terrifying - more scaremongering.

Your cherry picked figures are not supported by Home Office Statistics

Certainly trying to win an argument by boring people to death with non stop repetition is a technique I haven't come across before.

That is your opinion unsupported by any actual evidence - rather like your previous claims that smart meters were going to radiate us all with harmful radiation - you have gone a bit quiet on that front I notice.

Re: Providers WON'T Install Smart Meters

Getting back on Track

We should also remember what this thread was about before it was hijacked by Realist's paranoia and his insistence on using 100 words and five messages where one will do.

The current electricity distribution model is broken, it relies on central generation distributed over a network to households, it is not designed for power to be fed in randomly around the network.

As mentioned earlier voltage control becomes very difficult and it has happened where there are clusters of solar households that voltages have increased to the point where they threaten to damage household appliances.

It is also impossible to be paid for feeding power to the grid without a smart meter yet distribution companies are refusing to install them (again contrary to Realist's claims) because they are fearful of the consequences which is basically that their industry will enter a death spiral.
