Re: Front porch repair project

One more plank to fit ( the awkward one) then all taken down to counter sink holes and damp proof the top side. Then final fix ( quadrant where necessary along edges) after re-connection of outside lamp. Final finish not far away.

Re: Front porch repair project

Today the tiler has repaired the roof and now all the boards have been treated on the top (unseen) side and fixed in position. Lamp now connected up and working and the cable hidden in void.

Next is to add quadrant edging where necessary and mastic up. Also there is a strip on each outside of the supports that need to have knotted pine strips added. then it all painted up

If, as he should have, your roofer used breathable felt then you would not have needed the slotted vents in the soffit.

all painted up the front porch roof and waiting for it to dry.

Even though I say it myself, it came out a lot better than I expected

Re: Front porch repair project

Thank you Barry and Longdogs.

I did wonder at the start if I was taking on a bit more than I should , but if you don't try you don't know.

It always amazes me what you learn as a 5 yr apprentice with other trades as well. Choosing wood - making templates first - cutting -fixing. Painting was down to Sue.

The last bit by the door was a nightmare to cut with the brick wall corners and different wood width between door and window frame. Considered doing some blocking but even that wouldn't work because of the way it would have to be fixed in.
also although the last plank was 10 inches wide, each side had a knot missing making the plank 6 and a half inches wide. Luckily that was the exact width I needed for the widow half so got away with it "just"
