Macron and Fisheries

Hi

Macron has issued us a blunt warning.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46336962

So what?

The clever thing to do is to sign it and then play silly idiots strictly in accordance with the rules.

We are allowed checks and phytosanitary checks on all imports even under a Free Trade Deal.

We simply target those checks on the French, naff all he can do about it and it will ruin his economy.

We check every single french fishing vessel in our waters, even one wrong or undersized fish and we seize the vessel.

We check every single container of French Food entering the UK to ensure that it complies with every single requirement.

I could be a complete arse when it comes to things like this and so can all Enforcement Officers.

It is all perfectly legal as well.

It is time we stood up for ourselves and used the rules as well as France does.

But we won't, because we don't behave like that.
Sigh...

Macron simply said: play silly bugers during the negotiation, e.g. about fisheries, and there is insufficient progress. This triggers the backstop consisting of "a single customs territory between the (European) Union and the United Kingdom".
The UK cannot leave the backstop independently, it needs to be decided together with the EU. During that time you follow EU rules, implement new EU rules, and have no say in making of the rules.

Hi

You completely misunderstand the situation.

We have to implement new EU Rules on standards for goods and services which we trade with them, nothing else.

How we choose to implement them is down to us.

Please stop scaremongering, it does your posts no good.

There are many successful economies in the World which are not full members of the EU.

Yes, they have Trade Deals with them, which is what we will have.

A Trade Deal along the lines of Japan, Canada and South Korea will do us fine.

That's the problem really IMO we play very differently to many EU countries, always have. Not saying we are better just different. Greece is about as different to Germany as you can get and trying to bind them together into one entity is madness.

Sorry, but it is you who doesn't understand. Rules and standards will always apply, for any party trading with the EU. What I was referring to, is the transition period. During this period, which has an indefinite timeperiod, any new EU law must be implemented by the UK. The making of these laws is by the 27. UK has no say in it after march 29, 2019. That is no scaremongery (I have no need to scare you of anything), it is the plain and simple truth. Easily checked by anyone able to read.

Re: Macron and Fisheries

Macron is just trying to divert attention from the growing trouble and strikes at home...

Hundreds injured as France fuel protests continue

25% rises in fuel prices will do that I guess. Not sure how these politicians think real people can find figures like that.

I suspect that is the price rise on all goods after brexit. As some say, a price well worth to pay for sovereignty. Do you agree?

It won't happen and it's scaremongering to say it will. I'm hoping for a renationalised utilities after all the mess has been mopped up.
