Hip Replacement

Just been told I need to be referred to an orthopedic surgeon for potential double hip replacement. I have a choice as to which hospital/surgeon I can be referred to and I want to find out which surgeon has the best success rates, best procedures etc etc and anything else which is relevant for this procedure. Any ideas?

Hi Lindyloo, the only thing you can do, is look up the Hospital of your choice and read up the qualifications etc. on the Surgeons there.

Good luck.

Shame we can't write reviews on the surgery we've had, so we can pick and choose.

Re: Hip Replacement

Lindy darlin' - are they actually contemplating replacing both at the same time??? - do you live alone??? - very risky to do this if so as you'll be very limited in your mobility for quite a while - f'r instance, no driving (in fact no sitting in a car at all), no bus or train travel either for about 6 weeks after the operation(s).

To help you, might I suggest you invest in the purchase of a riser/recliner armchair to help you rise into a standing position. Alternatively, if you armchair/settee is very low, you may need some equipment (from the hospital Occupational therapist) to raise your chair/settee to help you get up and down.

In addition, to help you dress/undress you may need a gripper - these can be purchased fairly cheaply from:https://www.helpinghand.co.uk/shop/ - They also sell another little devise called a soxon to help you with socks/stockings/tights and also a long-handled shoe horn to stop you bending over too far.

Re: Hip Replacement

Thanks Joe - Thanks for your suggestions - I hate the thought of the operation and recovery period..........but if it gives me pain free walking it has to be worth it (I think). At the moment, it's just a first appointment with a surgeon who may say I'm not bad enough yet for the operation but my GP says my need fits the requirements!
