Re: My Day

I think you are brilliant Swim, you are so positive and determined. The first step in solving a problem is to realise that there is a problem and then deal with it.

I look forward to reading about your progress Swim...

Re: My Day

The course sounds very good Swimmers, make sure you keep it up.

As for the Police, I wonder what the problem was.

Keep us updated.

Re: My Day

Hi

A day late, but such is life.

I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat, which got progressively worse.

Yesterday was not what I expected.

Three hours of differing breathing techniques, some calming, some relaxing and some to energise.

When I get a PTSD episode, it is very real, a flashback so intense it comes complete with sounds and smells.

That is what your brain remembers.

The bodies natural defences kick in, the fight or flight responses, a surge of adrenaline etc.

You also breathe faster, to supply oxygen to your muscles.

You can hyperventilate and have a panic attack.

It was not easy, we had to hyperventilate and then learn how to consciously control your breathing to control your bodies reactions.

Practice is everything.

A long haul, but I have started.

Re: My Day

Swimfeeders, seeking solutions to your PTSD is extremely wise. There is no reason to let it affect your quality of life, which you seem to embrace with aplomb. Just think of all the hurdles that you have cleared just in the last few years! If nothing else, you are brave and resilient. I would think those two qualities will be powerful tools in helping you sort this out. Let us know how it goes for you.
