Your first computer

Computers have been around for many a year, what was your first computer and why did you get one.
My first one was a ZX81 with 1K of memory.
Why did I get a computer, I worked in a school and in a store room there was a BBC computer issued to all schools, my job was to introduce this to the pupils, that was a laugh, I had never seen a computer, so I got the ZX81 and practised at home.
I'm still practising.

Re: Your first computer

I bought my son an Atari 600 (if you can call it a computer ) so I faffed around on that .

I was also asked to go into the primary school and help the children get used to the BBC computers not because of my technical skills but because I was a helpful parent
We played a game, The Magic tree I think it was called with a little rabbit following a path.

Little did I know it would be the start of my son starting a computer business in his bedroom aged 12

Re: Your first computer

It was a 386 when Windows 95 first came out. I tried to get interested before that but found I couldn't. I was was too interested in mending the faults that TVs and video recorders could get. Got a computer when that job came to an end.

A TI99/4A. However, I worked for 'Big Blue', so I moved on to PS/2.

Re: Your first computer

Commodore PET 2001 which I shipped from America in 1978. There were very early computers before that, such as the NASCOM 1, but they were in kit form so I hung on until the PET was available. I splashed out and got the 8k version of the PET which at the time was luxury indeed.

Re: Your first computer

My first was from the now defunct company, Tiny. Our parents used to give is cash gifts, especially once they'd sold their house, and it may have been then. It was blimming expensive (in today's money) if I remember correctly.

Long since been consigned to the scrap heap.

Re: Your first computer

Hi Greg
My first computer was an iMac

My late OH (Graphic Designer/Art Director) had been using Macs for years and finally decided (2006) that it was time to let me loose on the internet !

The first time I used it on my own I was terrified.

6 months before he died, he bought a new one and I've been using that for three and a half years.
See my thread of doom and gloom
