Re: slow cooker

We have a slow cooker and I have used it today - but for a beef casserole. I know you can also do a curry in it, but I have no recipes - I just bung everything in and let it get on with it. Seems to work very well and its a boon if you are busy. I think it is my best gadget.

Re: slow cooker

I think when I used one years ago I didn't leave it cooking long enough so the food was raw, the one I have now which is a lot bigger says you can leave it on overnight and all day!!!

Wonder if you can leave fish in all day? It's a bit delicate or is it??

I don't think it should smell in anyway odd? Mine just smells like a casserole cooking on the stove.

Re: slow cooker

I've had one for years(about 35 years!) and when I got it I was able to buy a cookbook for slow cookers. I'm sure you can still get such books. Try Amazon?

Re: slow cooker

I love my slow cooker or crockpot as they are called here. Even though I work at home, I use mine at least once a week. I agree, the only smell I get from mine is the lovely cooking smell. Any meat I do, I find you have to add cooking juice (ie. beef broth for roasts) or the meat taste bland. Except for cornbeef, then I add a bit of water and the end result is its not salty. I don't like to mix the veggies with meat or they all end up tasting the same (and bland). I do tend to have a chilli mixture (with variations on the meat, if any) that is my families favourite.
