Curiosity 3

Given that Japan and China have never exactly been friends - why do most (if not all) Chinese Restaurants and Take Away's usually display the Japanese Maneki Neko - the lucky cat?

Is it perhaps because they have it on the menu?

A few years ago, a bag of cat's heads was found round the back of some of the Indian restaurants

Saw an episode of great ships (or whatever its called) a couple of days ago which explained where the word came from.
