What a shame.

The BBC being politically correct by airbrushing what was an excellent series.

I wonder whether the current trend of PC suppression of historical facts will ever end.

Certainly not until the professionally offended stop dictating to us.

What makes it more galling is that the series was v critical of Empire and imperial attitudes and attracted a lot of criticism for that very reason. Still not good enough for the Thought Police😡

I am glad it was critical, the British Empire was a disgrace!

The British gained much from its empire.

However, the countries of the empire also gained much in return.

Many countries which have since gained their independence have plunged into the mire, mainly because they are incapable of organising themselves efficiently.

Britain treated the inhabitants of countries, which it invaded and took over, as lesser mortals. The slave trade was one of its evil 'assets'.

Ironically, the series did not airbrush anything, and provided a warts n’all account of the Empire. How sad that others have seen fit to airbrush?

Anti-British elements in society constantly harp on about slavery in the evil British Empire. This was abolished by Britain in 1833 whilst the British Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in 1807.

In comparison, France abolished slavery in 1848 yet nobody ever seems to mention that.

Others followed, for example: Portugal 1858, Netherlands 1861, USA 1865, Cuba 1886, and Brazil 1888.

So you see, we were not the last to end slavery.

So why does everyone accuse us and quietly forget about others?

We were not the first either. Arabs in the Middle East were trading slaves in the 8th Century, mostly from Africa, long before us.

It may be worth having a look here:-

They are a very knowledgeable site and often track things down for people. There are even members who are are willing to sell or to swap copies of old TV series/Films etc.,
