The Island Victoria Hislop

I just couldn't put this down it was really compelling to get to the end. It was sad, happy and a must have read. not my usual type of reading I'm usually much more flippant but every so often I like a change . It was about a family and their friends on a small Greek island, it incorporated, love, friendship but most of all leprosy and the island they were sent to.

I too have just read it (in Rhodes which was very fitting being a Greek island). I recently started as Head of Marketing & PR for the Leprosy Mission so felt this would be a good introduction to the issue. Over and above that it's a good book as it deals so sympathetically with such difficult issues whilst painting a vivid picture of life for leprosy affected people and their neighbours during the War in Crete.

I read it a few years ago and enjoyed it too. Had spent a lot of time in Greece in the past, and she captured Greek society well.

I can't get it out of my head, I even googled leprosy to find out more about it, apparently there are still colonies in the world. It is so sad, I've even been dreaming about it, to be ripped away from your family just like that.It is awful.

Yes I've read most of Mr. T's books. I admit to grudgingly liking them although not actually a fan of his, I know he knows his stuff but he's much too smug for my liking. His books are good though, the right amount of humour and insight into making it a very good holiday or bedtime read.

Oh right I know he fancies himself as a bit of a saucy writer

At the moment I am reading Charlie and Lola and Peppa Pig I don't have time to read anything remotely adult these days!!
