Billy Connolly

I have never been a Billy Connolly fan. I thought some of his stuff was very funny especially his take on 'Incontinence' but for some reason, I don't know why but l couldn't watch him. I found him a bit too much and irritating.
I was sad for him that he found out on the same day that he had prostate cancer and Parkinson's disease.
By chance, l saw on Catch Up a programme that was aired recently on ITV called, Billy Connolly And Me In Celebration.
I watched it and was shocked at his deterioration. It showed various people famous and unknown saying what Billy Connolly meant to them and for some, he had changed their life or inspired them.
It showed a lot of his sketches from over the years and they were so funny, l was no longer irritated by him, l even started to like the man! I was appreciating his work and talent but I'm not sure if that was out of pity as he is not the man he was?
Are you a fan of Billy Connolly? Did you see this programme?

Re: Billy Connolly

I remember, many years ago, my Dad taking my best friend and I to Ayr.

I was only about 8 at the time......we camped out in the dunes on the beach where another guy(a local)was doing the same with his daughters.

I can vividly recall my dad and this guy howling with laughter as they sat outside the tent with a couple of beers.

It was my dad's first introduction to Billy Connolly(tape).

My dad became a big fan, as did I many years later.

Re: Billy Connolly

I watched a film recently with Billy Connelly, 'What we did on Holiday ' I rarely watch films and thought it was very good.

Apparently BC is a really nice chap, my cousin (sadly no longer with us) used to be a neighbour of his when her husband was with BBC Scotland and they attended some of the same functions and got to know him very well.

Re: Billy Connolly

I like him, behind the swearing and the rude jokes there is a man who really looks at the world and takes notice.

Hes also done some great film roles.

As for the rude joke and the swearing ...its all part of the act and thats often very funny.

Re: Billy Connolly

Yes, I saw the program & I have always been a Billy Connolly fan.
I have the DVD of What We Did On Our Holiday's & also saw the film in the cinema. I loved it. I saw Mrs. Brown too & liked that.
His travel series of programs on TV were excellent entertainment & my favourite was the Australian one.
I regret that I have never seen him live though.

The man is brilliant.
So sad to see how his illness has caught up with him.

Re: Billy Connolly

Didn't particularly like him as a comic - too much vulgarity and swearing - but he was great as an actor - Mrs Brown, Quarter ets., and he was a good presenter. A lot of talent. So sad to hear of his illneses.
