Re: A Visit to the Apple Store

It should be up and running when I move into the retirement complex. I have to give up my dial-up, I was horrified to learn that NO Macs are compatible with it now!! So looks as if I'll have to use Comcast, as Verizon isn't available there. Am not looking forward to trying to transfer all my passwords, favorites and photos to the new Mac; my friend seems to think he knows how to do it ....

Eileen, once you get used to your new iMac you'll wish you'd updated ages ago! I love my Mac and would never revert to a PC again. Does Chris use a Mac?

Re: A Visit to the Apple Store

No, he's a PC guy, unfortunately, and not likely to convert, despite all my suggestions/hinting/out-and-out-nagging!! Carolyn has a Mac laptop, the one I used when recuperating there, but she, surprisingly enough, isn't as techy as I always thought she was! I suspect you and/or Az will be getting some frantic SOS's down the road .....project for this week is to transfer the passwords, favorites and iPhotos from the old Mac to the new one... we have one of those thingys, forget what it's called, thumb drive or something similar??? Hope it will work.....

Re: A Visit to the Apple Store

I was lucky that my best friend is a guru and did all the transferring through my wifi network between the PC & the Mac. It took a while since I also transferred all my photos & music the same way.

Lucky you! I don't do music or movies; all I want to transfer is passwords, favorites and photos. Hope it works ......

I never laugh at people trying to get to grips with technology Eileen, it is not everyones cup of tea and I admire them for trying. You would probably laugh at me trying to Crochet, I did try but was all fingers and thumbs.

The easiest way to transfer files, photo's etc for non techy's is to copy them onto a memory stick and then drag and drop them wherever you want them to be.

It should be fairly easy Eileen - you will just need to get an ethernet cable (which should be less than $10) and then when you start up your new Mac it will ask you if you want to import from an older one... it will then copy all your personal files over I think it might even ask you what you would like copied over.

Ethernet cable? Is that like a thumb drive or memory stick? Or my USB cable I use for pics?

Re: A Visit to the Apple Store

I'm a Mac snob too lol!

Been using them since the early 90s. Started off with a little Mac SE (which if I recall correctly cost a couple of thousand quid or not far off, at the time). I've owned probably 8 down the years, through all the various incarnations.

I had to buy a PC for my kids for their school work and it's like a horse and cart compared to a Rolls Royce.

Re: A Visit to the Apple Store

Surprised to see this back again. For the record, we never could figure out how to do it. I did all my Bookmarks again, remembered enough of my passwords that Firefox didn't, and just lost the photos. All the best ones were already in PhotoBucket.

Hi, Jenilou!
