Re: Two unfortunate tales

Just a bit of info

A microchip is not proof of ownership it only is a record of who owned the dog at the time. Any change in that information ie moving home should be passed on to the company who provided the chip.

proof of ownership needs a sales of goods receipt with a detailed description of the animal and preferably a photo on the same paper of the dog in question

Another misleading thought is getting a dog from a strays kennel. The person getting the dog is not actually the owner, only the keeper of the dog.

This is why they ask for a donation and not provide a sales of goods receipt. They may give a receipt for the money transfer but that is not the same as one for sale of goods

Yes, we know that Bazza, that is what I just said that chipped dogs are often still not getting back to their owner's.
Makes a bit of a mockery of compulsory chipping if you ask me!
And I still think it is totally wrong not to have compulsory scanning to go with it!

Re: Two unfortunate tales

funny but happy story ending

When rescued a Gypsy huge cart type horse, it was massive. We found it walking down our lane at the kennels so put it in our top paddock for safety and reported it to the police.

the lad who owned it enquired at all the police stations but no record of it at least UNTIL it was discovered it had been put in the police lost dog file.
he then came and got his horse back he was so please he returned with a bunch of flowers for Sue and said He assured we will never ever have any trouble from their static camp a couple of miles away.

Possibly a reason why ....

1) why so many strays languish forever in kennels due to over zealous gate keepers .
2) people buy dogs at ridiculous prices from breeders

How many breeders really bother about the dog / check the home after they have cashed the check ?

The pros are dog kennels can repossess the dog if circumstances demand it .

However the legality of this is a grey area .

Re: Two unfortunate tales

Just heard some news about the dog dropped over the fence .
His name is Big Ben
After two years of kindness he still cannot be touched but will accept a treat from the hand .
The kind lady who has him says he will always have a home with her he gets on with other dogs so just runs free.
However he had a problem with matts in his fur .
With veterinary help he was sedated and was clipped out so He is much more comfortable now.
