Well i've asked for Children's menu before in a café for my Mum, but they said no. Most places will let you have a doggy bag to take home with you.

To me, if I am given a very large portion, it just puts me off eating.

Yes, we have experienced it and yes it's ridiculous, but that's why we ask the waiter what is served with the dish and take it from there.

Thinking about it, restaurants should be able to serve smaller portions on request, doesn't need to be called a child portion - I've seen what some children can put away!

The actual food is the cheap part of the menu, it is the overheads such as wages, rent etc that cost the money. McDonald's led the way with their "supersize me" when for $1 extra you got a double portion. It is far more profitable for a business to give you a massive portion and be able to charge a $1 or so more. The extra food costs virtually nothing but the $1 goes straight on the bottom line..
