Why? We don't need unnecessary delays when it comes to dealing with the Chinese Plague.

Tory MPs criticise 'rule of six' decision

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54115064

Ex-minister Steve Baker said the action amounted to "arbitrary powers without scrutiny" and MP Desmond Swayne said it was "outrageous" not to have a Parliamentary debate.

Senior Conservative backbenchers are lobbying Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle - who accused the government this week of bypassing Parliament - to make sure that legislation is being reviewed every month, not every six months.

Conservative MP Steve Baker described the new restrictions as "madness".

He said the decision to have Covid marshals "will turn every space in Britain in the equivalent of going into airport security where we are badgered".

Another ex-minister Sir Desmond Swayne said it was "outrageous" the laws had "been made without consultation in Parliament" and without any debate.

"We have new rules that will intrude on family life, social life, huge intrusion into individual liberty, we are to be marshalled in the streets by marshals - what on earth does that hold out for us?" He said.

Earlier this week in the Commons, Tory MP Graham Brady said: "From Monday the government is imposing the most profound restrictions on people's personal liberty and family life why has there not been a debate and a vote in the Commons this week?"
Of course, it's only their opinion .....

Of sourse, it's only their opinion .....
Well some obviously will! Fear of losing their seats, same as the Parliamentary Conservative Party turning on Thatcher.

That because they feared for their seats because of the misselling of the very sensible and fair Community Charge by Kinnock as being a Poll Tax which it certainly was not but the name and consequential bad association stuck.

Ministers 'ruling by decree' on virus, warns Sir Graham Brady

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54232375

Parliament must directly approve any new coronavirus restrictions before they come into force, a leading Conservative MP has told the BBC. Sir Graham said ministers had "got into the habit of ruling by decree" on the issue, citing the "imposition" of the rule of six limit on social gatherings.
His warning comes as further measures are considered to address rising cases.

MPs will vote next week on whether to continue to allow the government to use powers contained in the Coronavirus Act, an emergency piece of legislation fast-tracked through Parliament in late March. It gives the government a wide range of emergency powers, although most of the Covid lockdown laws have been imposed using regulations under the 1984 Public Health Act, which take effect prior to a parliamentary vote.

Sir Graham, who is chair of the powerful 1922 committee of Conservative backbenchers, said the six-month review of March's Act was welcome but Parliament needed to be much more involved in scrutinising and approving what he said were "really quite extreme emergency powers". While he accepted the current situation was "serious", he said this did not absolve government from acting without recourse to Parliament - as he suggested had happened when it "imposed" the rule of six limit in England.
The government's seemingly chaotic approach to the control of the COVID-19 pandemic is surely overdue for scrutiny .....

If parliament can get their act together, speedy debate with clear decisive agreement on the options left, the very last thing needed is delay and dithering.

Wot? And introduce even more delay? This is a national emergency. What could be done better than what is being done today in trying to adapt to a chaotic situation that is changing hour by hour let alone day by day?

It sounds like a few feathers have been ruffled on the back benches

The last thing we need during a pandemic is lengthy debates and protracted voting sessions in the HOC, advice needs to be taken and decisions swiftly made or we will all be dead ...

More than likely a CYA exercise to protect their seats come the next election by dissociating themselves from the very necessary but very unpopular measures being taken by the Cabinet.

Indeed, we've had to put up with it all summer - apparently, no-one in the government (or attached to it) saw an autumn "surge" coming when they let the "morons" off the leash .....

Yes they did see it coming but tried to reach a ballance between increasing economic activity and controling tossers. No-one could have done better but the chaotic nature of the Chinese Plague added to the conspiracy twats created an impossible and unpredictable situation.
