More fivers

It seems there might be more £5 notes in circulation, as the banks propose to put more of them back into ATMs
Personally I think this is great news. There are so few in circulation now that they have to go round and round and get totally filthy and tatty. Also, they help in making up change and prevent having to walk round with a purse or pocket full of coins.
Hoorah for the fiver! (not that I would say no to a bundle of £10, £20 or £50 notes )

Re: More fivers

I hope that they do put more new £5 notes out and scrap some of the old ones. Some are so disgusting you don't even want to touch them!

Re: More fivers

I'm pleased to hear that DM, our fivers were beginning to get almost as tatty as some of the Egyptian small denomination notes (take plenty of antibacterial wash on your trip).

The £5 note still has plenty of uses, for instance, as pocket money for children instead of trying to find the £1 coins.

Re: More fivers

Thanks for the tip Mags.

Good use for a fiver - tuck it in your pocket if you're going out bagless. It's the perfect amount for a nice coffee and cake plus tip. You might get £1 change but that's fine. With only a tenner you risk getting £6 in coins as change - way too clanky!

Re: More fivers

People here HATE dollar coins! No one uses them; you never get them in change. The only way they'll ever circulate is if they stop printing dollar bills.

Re: More fivers

They're still legal tender Azz - admittedly you'd have to go to a bank to change them.
