No I'm talking about villages where many things that died out in cities and towns were still going on. We joke about inbreeding in some areas, but there is truth in the jokes. Some villagers never left their villages until the wars that saw the men conscripted. In those villages many old practices were still going on. We think we are so superior and so educated but that's relatively recent.

I prefer the testicles in the trouser press solution to rampant males! Obviously they can't controll themselves in certain cultures for women to consider these barbaric solutions to keeping young girls safe.

I agree with Baz46 about bring back school medicals.
Mind you, some religions may not allow their children to be examined, especially if parents have marked or damaged them.

I think it was Chinese who bind their little girl's feet to stop them growing bigger too.

And what about the men who believe hanging heavy weights on their willies will make them bigger - and that is self inflicted!

It was fashionable here in the 1920s for girls to appear to be flat chested - so they bound their breasts with special corsets, bust bodices or even bandages.

Now some lesbians do it - and you can buy the binders on Amazon - where else!

At least those who buy and bind are making a free choice, which is OK - and not having it forced upon them, which is just barbaric!

Another deplorable practice imported into the country by backward looking communities.

Ruthio says that "It's always the woman's fault.". In this case and that of FGM I would agree, it's always women that inflict these barbaric practices on their daughters for the sake of their `traditions`. Despicable.

Many of these awful practices stem from people who know no better, so I think that education may help. Surely no woman would wish to protect her daughter, if she understood that breast ironing & FMG are not the way to control men's sexual desires & could harm her daughters.

These are practices from backward people & they should be warned that they are child abuse that could carry a prison sentence.

The problem is, we have so many immigrants that were brought up with these practices, that it is difficult to know what they are doing. I don't believe that it should be the teachers job, but maybe that is the only way to get the abused children to understand that they can talk to somebody that can help stop it.

Ridiculous as that is, as you say, it is their own choice so that's fair enough. Binding their breasts I can see might have been fashionable at one time but ironing your breasts?....... Really?

This practice is said to come from the Cameroons. Strange that other African countries have customs of dancing around almost naked.
