England out of Euro 2016

Hi

Reports here in Poland that if Britain votes to leave the EU on 23rd June they will be banned from playing in the Euro 2016 Football Competition.

French President Hollande is reported as saying that although the competition starts on 10th June, Brexit will automatically mean that England will de disqualified even if they are still in the Competition as they will no longer be part of Europe.

What on earth has football got to do with the European Economic Union?

Whether you are in the EU or not does not mean you are not part of Europe.
Europe is geographical, while the EU is only political.
