Re: Hibiscus

I'm using plastic pots can't afford proper frost proof ceramics in the quantity I'm using them, we have them on the decking and paved areas around the van. Steven has made proper in earth borders around the grassed area at the back for his roses and fuchsias, but I'm doing annuals and perennials in pots a plenty. 45 at last count Steven reckons I need to slow down or the decking won't take the weight

Re: Hibiscus

I reckon you are losing most of the water through the bottom of the pots. Decking is allowing most of it to escape as it's grooved and also has gaps between the planks. Trays or even old saucers will help a lot. You could also put tin foil in the bottom of the pots to prevent the water escaping.

Re: Hibiscus

My hibiscus is about 15 years old now .....

I bought it as a 10" potted plant and replanted it in a large container in my back garden which gets the sun in the afternoon. For a number of years there were very few flowers on it and it didn't look very healthy so I decided to replant it into the front garden which also gets sun and hope for the best. It improved greatly and is now approximately 5ft tall and flowers profusely every year. I'm going to reluctantly prune it for the first time this year and hope I don't ruin it!

Re: Hibiscus

Could be vine weevil grubs in the container eating the roots.
You may need to re-pot the plant and check out the root system

Re: Hibiscus

I am having the same problem with mine, (Blue Bird) the flowers falling off before opening...also the leaves in places are getting a sort of lighter mosaic pattern on them they are in full sun all day...is it a virus the plant has got...should I plant it out in the garden (it's in a large pot,has been since a baby) it is only about two feet in height...?
I shall look at the link provide above, and shall take heed of the posts already on here...

Thanks for any more info...
