Yes, that's very true, depending of course, on the level of the nuclear accident.
Some have happened, of course. Windscale, for example, resulted in nuclear contamination on the land around the area, though if I remember correctly, no-one actually died or even suffered 'radiation sickness' or other physical injuries.
Nothing really of note regarding coal-fired power stations, but there have been very many coal miners killed over the years, especially back in the 19th century and before. Even more miners suffered from ill health and early death mainly through breathing in coal dust throughout their working lives. Of course, these things were considered acceptable, or at least unavoidable in those days.
