If there is a power cut you are stuffed that's what.

Power cuts are the pits, a downward spiral.

Why Nagasaki & Hiroshima? Did you mean Fukushima?

We have 7 active plants, France has 17. What's to stop France having an accident that affects us? Although it's forty years since they did and 34 years since the most serious accident this side of the planet - Chernobyl.

We're next to the end of the overhead supply, the farm next door is the end. Our power drops out fairly regularly, especially in the winter but it's seldom for longer than an hour and only once was it for just over a day and a half following a pole coming down in a storm.

It's no big deal.

Yes, that's very true, depending of course, on the level of the nuclear accident.

Some have happened, of course. Windscale, for example, resulted in nuclear contamination on the land around the area, though if I remember correctly, no-one actually died or even suffered 'radiation sickness' or other physical injuries.

Nothing really of note regarding coal-fired power stations, but there have been very many coal miners killed over the years, especially back in the 19th century and before. Even more miners suffered from ill health and early death mainly through breathing in coal dust throughout their working lives. Of course, these things were considered acceptable, or at least unavoidable in those days.

The power here went out for about five mins recently. I nearly had a panic attack. I mean at the time we didn't know it would be five mins.

Apparently in Fukushima nobody died of the nuclear accident, but 1600 died of hysteria.

It's funny (sort of) OGF that you worry more about nuclear power dangers than about Covid. Covid has killed excessively more in six months than nuclear power ever has.

That is true but as President Trump says eventually Covid will go away but the waste land around Chernobyl will remain. The clean up around Fukushima cost $21billion and yet people are refusing to return. Nuclear and, more importantly, the fear of nuclear has some unforeseen outcomes
