Covid-19 poem
I've had a bit of time on my hands today so thought I'd write a poem. Hope you like it.
A Different World
We’re living in some real strange times
We’ve changed our way of living
People raise money for the NHS
Folk donating to Just Giving
Some people put their life on the line
For those we will clap and cheer
They risk their lives so others may live
Even though they’re filled with fear
For safety we have to forego our hugs
With the people that we hold dear
We could infect our loved ones
If we tried to get too near
People furloughed, working from home
Too dangerous to go into work
Working environments being deep cleaned
Because germs of the virus may lurk
We’re not allowed to drive too far
We might be stopped by cops
We’re heeding social distancing
When we’re visiting the shops
Mouths are covered with facial masks
Afraid we’ll catch Covid-19
It’s a really dangerous virus
Not one that we’ve ever seen
We wash our hands obsessively
In between we sanitise
We observe the daily stats
The death toll is still on the rise
Some can’t even leave their homes
As they shield from the evil disease
All the people are now so scared
If someone should cough or sneeze
No funeral gatherings allowed right now
We’ve to mourn without saying goodbye
No wedding ceremonies are going ahead
But they’re rules we have to abide by
Social outings with family or friends
Distant memories of our past
We’re all just taking each day as it comes
As we wonder how long it will last
We’re fighting an invisible enemy
It’s like we’re living through war
It all seems surreal and strange to us
Nothing’s the same anymore
We’re living in a different world
Since this frightening virus came
It’s left us all wondering as we ask
Will the world ever again be the same
