COVID-19: 2,948 new cases on Monday

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

The government announced 2,948 new cases on Monday, only a fraction down on the 2,988 announced on Sunday, which was the highest figure since 22 May.
The latest (recorded) totals are:

Cases: 350,100 Deaths: 41,554

With lowering outside temperatures and people retreating to the warmth of indoors, that's a sobering statistic ..... the daily average, so far, this month is 2,000 new (recorded) cases per day .....

Re: COVID-19: 2,948 new cases on Monday

If there is going to be a "second wave" I thought I'd better find out what my chances are:

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Survival Calculator

https://www.covid19survivalcalculator.com/en/calculator

The good news:

Infection Risk
  • We estimate you have a 5% chance of catching COVID-19.
  • The average is 11.36%
  • You are in the lowest risk band for catching COVID-19
  • 5% is the equivalent of 1 in 20 people or betting odds of 19/1.
The bad news:

Mortality Risk
  • If infected we estimate you have a 3.291% chance of dying COVID-19.
  • The average is 0.407%
  • You are in the highest risk band for dying from COVID-19
  • 3.291% is the equivalent of 1 in 30.39 people or betting odds of 29.39/1.
I can live with that .....

Coronavirus in Wales: Caerphilly county to go under local lockdown

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-54057835
The county borough of Caerphilly is to be placed under a local lockdown from 18:00 BST on Tuesday after a "rapid" rise in coronavirus cases.

People will not be able to leave or enter the borough without good reason, the Welsh Government said.

Face masks will be required for everyone over 11 in shops within the area.

Seeing others within extended households indoors will be banned, and no overnight stays will be allowed.

Wales' Health Minister Vaughan Gething said there had been a "significant rise in cases" in the borough over a short space of time, linked to travel abroad and people socialising indoors "not following social distancing guidelines".

"A lot of these cases are in younger people and thankfully, at the moment, most of these are mild.".
Over 180,000 people are affected .....

Caerphilly is north of Cardiff, which recently had an influx of cases on a Tui flight from Zante.

Dr Giri Shankar, in charge of PHW's response to the pandemic, said a "proportion of cases" involved young people, some of who were "reluctant to share details of where they have been and who they have been in contact with", with the Test, Trace and Protect teams.

"By not giving the teams accurate information, these people are placing their own family members and friends at risk," he said.

Survival Probability
Infection Risk 13%
Mortality Risk If Infected 3.392%
Survival Probability 99.559%

I think I can live with these numbers.

Re: COVID-19: 2,948 new cases on Monday

Hi

I am having to be very careful.

I have acute Heart Failure.

I am at extreme risk.

Life must go on.

I view it as my job to keep out of the way of others earning a living and enjoying themselves.

They are the ones paying my State Pension.

I had a great life, travelled the World, no restrictions.

Partied until dawn.

I would not wish to deny this to others.

Yes, I've been following it on Bruce's thread that he's been posting in detail for months.
