Don't go for flowers and plants, it's the easy option IMO. Try and think of something more original, but only you know her tastes (and your budget). How about a weekend away in Europe somewhere? A lovely piece of jewellery, perhaps?

Many thanks for your messages and comments. I think I now know what "The Boys" have planned for their Mum. It was something I was considering but I let slip to one of them and it looks like maybe its been taken out of my hands so it will be far better than if I had arranged it for sure. Thanks again for your interest. I'll update when I know!

Congratulations to you both.
What do you give her, renew you marriage vows and buy her a nice ring and take a holiday where you spent your honeymoon.
I bought my wife some nice garden tools.

Congrats from me too

When my 70th birthday and our 50th anniversary comes round (only a couple of years off ) I'm hoping for a quiet celebration, with just my family to dinner.
We are both quiet people, not to say that we both don't have a good sense of humour but we enjoy our own company.
I'd like a piece of jewellery or a floor standing wood/brass globe
Don't want much do I?

Hope the boys surprise to their mum gives her great pleasure
