Trump in Rome - the politics of religion

Not sure if anyone already posted about this meeting. Thought it might break the monotony of today's plethora of "loony labour" threads.

I was intrigued when I heard that Trump would be visiting Pope Francis. Given they both want World peace this should have been a cordial and productive meeting of minds. Whatever your views on religion (and that's not what this thread is about), the event was pure Italian opera.

So for one thing the Pope uncharacteristically hardly smiled. If Pope Francis wanted to send a polite two finger message his lack of approval was there loud and clear.

Secondly he appears to have called the Don out for being a bit porky by asking Melania what she feeds him while glancing at his protruding waistline.

Most interestingly Melania covered her head for this occasion and wore her hair in a demure up do. Whereas in Saudi she displayed flowing locks. She is quite the dark horse politically, saying a great deal without words. Far more feisty than the media give her credit for.

There are veils and veils every Latin woman knows there is nothing more elegant or romantic than a black mantilla.
Veils can enhance and always have unfortunately in last years the 'veil ' something that brings to mind a light yet alluring hair covering has become
sinonimous with the heavy hair flattering hijab and the alll covering nijab which has all the allure of a dead crow.

Pretty naive view imo.

Neither Trump (The US) nor the Pope (Vatican RC) want world peace.

What they want is domination, control and to perpetuate their individual powers which they achieve in different ways. The US achieves it through force of arms, military intervention and tailoring the law to fit their purpose. The Vatican achieves it through the religious campaign of fear, social compliance, guilt and through preying on the vulnerable and those suffering.

Re: Trump in Rome - the politics of religion

I've quite enjoyed trumps tour, his wife batting his hand away when he tried to hold hers, the pope signally his disapproval, trump so keen to get in the picture he pushed another president out of the way

He's a turnip as my husband says, just a root vegetable out of place in a leafy salad.
