Kier Starmer

Kier Starmer has won the Labour leadership contest and will have Angela Rayner as deputy leader. Both claim that they are Socialists and not Corbynistas - time will tell

Momentum favourite Rebecca Wrong Daily is out of the running and hopefully will be condemned to the back benches.

Sir Keir Starmer – 275,780 (56.2%)

Rebecca Long-Bailey – 135,218 (27.6%)

Lisa Nandy – 79,597 (16.2%)

Re: Kier Starmer

It was expected but now it's happened. So what do others think of the new leader? I don't know much about him but he seems to be very popular. Is he likely to breathe some fresh air into the party or is this worse news?

The richest person out of them wins the leadership contest, no surprises there.

Apparently a millionaire/Barrister from London.

Should fit in well with the Northern Labour Party members.

So less lefty than his predecessor? Is he more likely to appeal to the middle of the road voters?

It'll be interesting to see who he chooses for his shadow cabinet, that will speak volumes...

Re: Kier Starmer

He comes across as a bit of a greasy creep. Got the brains, got the money, got the miserable face, should go well for him. I do think he was always out of place in Corbyn's line up and intentionally positioned himself with being Leader of the Opposition in mind. Coming from London and a millionaire probably won't affect his ratings, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
I just hope he gets rid of all the activists who sit , lying in wait for the next thing they can get their teeth into and turn it into a saga of pitting one against another. That's not politics, that's 'activism' which is no way to run a successful political party, IMO.

It says he was the son of a toolmaker and a nurse, so not a silver spooner. JC was more so.

Re: Kier Starmer

That's a disappointment, I rather wanted R L-B to get the job
Still, look on the bright side, we now have Angela Rayner for the deputy

Oh well, a millionaire, London based Remainer with a Knighthood should be just the thing to go down well with Northern working class voters

Re: Kier Starmer

Another labour leader elected with a track record of failure.

This is great news for the Conservatives
