Thinking

Can you have too much of it? is there a time to stop, or at least take a break, can a thinker relax on a Lilo?

Re: Thinking

I have spent many hours in bed thinking about problems and situations, trying to come up with answers and fixes, it's not good. I have also spent many times on a lilo* thinking about members of the opposite sex, which was bloody brilliant.

* The lilo had nothing to do with it tbh but it just tied in with the question.

Re: Thinking

To stop my brain working, what little I have left, if I can't get to sleep at night, I think of a wall, it's more boring than counting sheep & usually works.

Re: Thinking

Absolutely. Over thinking can be a curse. Especially when you are trying to get to sleep. We live with a habitual over thinker. My son. Ironically it can also be counterproductive to the formulation and application of ideas. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is useful to combat over thinking and helps you organise your thought patterns so they serve you rather than you being a slave to them. It's not a cure all but it is a good start. It's a bit like WD40 for the brain.

Re: Thinking

Not being as common as you lot I tend to contemplate rather than think, often I contemplate my navel but at other times I contemplate even more serious matters, such as what's for tea.

Re: Thinking

My son is always saying 'You overthink things' and it infuriates me.
In my opinion you can't overthink or think too much. I like to analyse things and consider every angle and option, it helps to come to a conclusion.

Re: Thinking

I allow myself two hours for thinking about an issue.
If I haven't come to a conclusion by that time, it's time to let thinking go.

May I say I sleep soundly throughout the night. I come to realize that most issues will wait until morning to be solved.
*Note.....don't make more problems for yourself than you can handle at one time.
