No longer allowed to express our opinions?

This kind of event could only happen in the UK, anywhere else it would probably be laughed at!

"Driver 'forced by Essex Police to remove Brexit slogan' "

"Two anti-Brexit campaigners say they were pulled over on to the hard shoulder of the M25 and told by police to remove a slogan from their car.

Essex Police said the force was trying to establish what happened."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-50544243

Could it be perhaps that the police officers involved were not anti-Brexit
but instead were Remain voters?

Your thoughts on this?

Re: No longer allowed to express our opinions?

I don't live in England but I have done in the past for a short time. I always found the London police very polite, helpful and professional. So this does surprise me. On the face of it it sounds ridiculous that they would make a deal out of a bumper sticker. But times may have changed I guess. If there is a law that has been broken however well police are obliged to act regardless of their personal views. BUt they do not have a right to act in a bullying way. End of story.

It's a bit stupid having political slogans on your car to start with. Particularly something so emotive that could distract drivers who feel the other way.

Why would you think the police were remain voters? That's a strange conclusion to draw.

Motorists are an easy target for the police. That police offices time would be better spent tracking down criminals and petty thieves. There are some, like in every other job, are bullies and like to throw their weight about . Fried of ours had a" Shit happens" sticker on her car rear bumper and the police made her remove it..
what we don't know is what the police officer has had to deal with previously on his shift and they dio take a lot of abuse. However hat is no excuse for the police officer to be aggressive in his attitude.

Of course there will be a police cover up as they will close ranks and we shall never hear if the officer gets a repremand or not.

What about "Baby on Board" stickers, is anyone suggesting we throw the Baby out with the bumper sticker?

The police are completely out of order .
Haven’t they got anything better to do ?

Stop hitting on soft targets and go and deter some real law breakers .

Re: No longer allowed to express our opinions?

I am struggling to believe the police actually stopped the motorist on the motorway hard shoulder and did not take them off at the next junction. The police would fully understand that the hard shoulder is to be use only in an emergency and this incident was definitely not an emergency. Something is not right in the report.

Looks like it was the word 'bollocks' the policeman found offensive.....actually I can understand that but I don't think it's a police issue......hope he doesn't lose his job because of it .

My thoughts on that were simply that to me BrExit means leave the EU and they objected to that perhaps being Remainers. I simply do not know any more with the way this country is going, it's 'down the tubes' as far as I can see and I am sure that's not the way many in the 'older age group' ever thought it would be.

Exactly. It’s a distraction which could be dangerous to other drivers. Period.
