12 years a slave

Did anyone see this at the cinema? Im wondering if its worth getting it on DVD now its released .

I would wait till it comes on the television, I didn't rate it much, it wasn't a patch on Roots, which is just being repeated on Freeview.

Thanks Jimmy. I had wondered if there had been a lot of hype to it , and it had been overated.

I've seen it, and I would say it has been overated, not vastly but quite a bit.

The problem with the film, as I see it, is that there have been plenty of similar films with the main characters undergoing far more bad treatment and mental anguish. When you look it at from this viewpoint, and lets face it you do, it fails and becomes an 'also run'. Still worth watching though as it is well made and apparently based on a true story - at least I think it was.

I have seen the film and thought it quite good, but a much better one, in my opinion at least, is The Butler, a really good film.

I saw it recently and i was unimpressed. Its often the case with the hype that surround so much stuff these days. Clever editing can make films look like thy have impact only to disappoint on viewing.

Its not awful, but Roots was better.
