Re: Mr , Mrs, miss and now mx

Oh I am a staunch defended of Mrs and Mr even use the term master for young men. I think our society is better for having these prefixes and I was so proud to become a Mrs I wouldn't want to see anyone stopped from having that experience.

Unusually I disagree with you Julie, if you want to be labelled that's fine, but not all of us do. I dislike being Mrs as I'm no longer married and don't feel I need a title, it's no body's business if I'm married, single, feel comfortable in my body or gas so why should I have to sit in a public place and have someone call out Mrs or Mx in front of everyone else drawing attention to it. What next? Names for gay parents to discriminate which is more motherly?

I can see why you feel like that, I am not sure there is a way we can all be satisfied as we can't individually pick and chose. Perhaps it's one of those questions we need a proper countrywide debate about ? go with the greatest number of votes for or against. But some would always be disappointed.

Re: Mr , Mrs, miss and now mx

Once, many years ago when my daughters were small, I ordered something on the old clockwork computer from Tyrrell and Green (John Lewis) and a drop down list of titles appeared, everything from Mr through to Right Reverend.
So just for fun and for the hell of it (because I'm like that when it comes to conforming to roools ) we giggled and ticked Right Reverend.

A couple of months ago we went into the John Lewis shop to order a new oven. When the assistant was filling in the endless endless paperwork, she looked at her laptop and innocently asked us, "Is it still Right Reverend?"

A bit harsh if his surname is Bates.

Re: Mr , Mrs, miss and now mx

Labels are by default discriminatory, as we all know if you have Lord or Lady etc. in front of your name you get different treatment than others. I'd be surprised if putting Mx on a job application would do any good. As it is you can't fill in a form on-line without filling in all the boxes or it flashes at you, so you already have no choice in keeping your status to yourself.
