Get rid of anything you don't use regularly & make sure the things you want to keep are always kept in the same place. That way, even if hubby is untidy, it will be easy to put things back where they belong.
Set a date by which you will have sorted your papers & make sure you stick to it!
Agree a daily time with your husband when your paper work is either filed ( in the right place) or disposed of.......it will make life much easier!

Give us reports on progress... that will make it more difficult to decide " Oh I will do that another time".

Re: How do keep a house tidy

I'm with Muddy on this one.
I'm always in a muddle, not dirty, just muddly.

My worst weakness is piles of reading stuff.
This time of year I get loads of gardening catalogues arrive with all the lovely spring planting ideas.

Then there are my dog magazines, gardening magazines, the day's post, perhaps a parcel or two, crosswords, and far too many houseplants cluttering up the place, let alone the dog beds and Gertie's toys everywhere!
But it's my home, and a happy one.

Get yourself a few box files - at least the paperwork will be tidy.

Thank goodness for that Mups I have reading stuff everywhere .
I have just discovered three calendars all horse orientated apart from the one actually on the wall which isn’t .
Also the Sunday paper has a lot to answer for . I never get through all it’s bits so it hangs around until next Sunday .
Then there is mungo and his collection of old bones ( ideal for stubbing ones toes on and the source of much bad language !

( I have just tidied them up)

Re: How do keep a house tidy

We have a large filing cabinet for all the paperwork, plus a pin board for things that need doing. Any paper work that needs shredding, we just give it to Murtagh...... he loves ripping paper up.

And everyday it’s the same !

How to you all keep a serine tidy house

How much time to people generally spend tidying every day ?
I sympathise because this could have been written by me. And has made me feel much better!
My ground floor is open plan which doesn't help and I could probably do with a lot more storage space.
But I've realised as long as it's kept clean it doesn't really matter.

Muddy, l am the same. Housework to me is a killer as it’s so exhausting.
The best thing for me is for someone to ring up and say they are coming to see me, then l go round like a bat of hell and tidy up!

Yet put me in my garden all day, doing hard grafting out there and l’m in my glory.

I wonder if it’s because l was born in Ireland and l’m more suited to navvy work and building canals and motorways!
