So the EU want to put tarrifs on their own transactions going through London do they? The same will apply to New York and Singapore

Hi

The situation is explained here.

https://ec.europa.eu/info/sites/info...workers_en.pdf

We are leaving the Single Market, hence the big institutions setting up companies in the EU.

Several posting on this forum expressed the expectation that after brexit your politicians would no longer be able to hide their choices and inactivity behind the EU.
I fear in future at every moment of setback it will be blamed on those evil europeans who refused the UK a good trade deal. Giving your politicians an excuse. In other words, brexit will not bring you that change.

Hi

We will get a Trade Deal.

It will not be what we want but it will be same, basically, as Japan, Canada and Korea.

There is a huge fallacy that the EU need us.

The EU will protect it's Single Market, it really is as simple that.

We are now a Competitor and will be treated as such.

As Von der Leyen said in straatsburg: “In case we cannot conclude an agreement by the end of 2020 we will face again a cliff-edge situation and this would clearly harm our interests but it will impact the UK more than us as the EU will continue benefiting from its single market its customs union and the 70 international agreements we signed with our partners – but it’s clearly not in our interest.

There will be minimal job losses, but the trades will be done in the EU, causing a huge loss of Tax here in the UK.
If you exclude the usa, there hardly is a wto trading deficit (and a little trade surplus with usa).
The UK is an interesting market and since the UK intends to minimize tariffs, that seems likely to continue. But due to EU tariffs the UK may lose a large share of their european market. Which some will think can easily be replaced by new markets.

Why does the EU want to make it more expensive for itself, firstly, and secondly, as I explained before exchange rates can reduce or completely negate in some cases, the tarrif amount applied to goods.

All you will do is have the UK put tarrifs on EU imports and have a different arrangement for the USA and the rest of the world.

The EU problem is a much bigger one because it will need its exporters to the UK to lower its prices to compete with the rest of the world. That means, less profit, less tax revenue, less jobs, less wage growth etc etc.
