That's true.

What if you had passed the first one, then gone and failed the second one.

I wonder which one they would go by?

Best not to worry about it.

I've not had to do a dvla test but when I've had a peripheral vision test as part of a regular eye test it's always with the door open and not in silence. Perhaps that's part of the test?

Interesting thought, Annie.

After all, when we are driving, it is often not in total silence. There might be the radio on, a passenger chatting, kids playing about in the back seat, distractions outside etc . .

where the field test falls down every time is you are supposed to look at a light dot which moves position and see dots of different strengths right to the screen edge which come on randomly

When you are driving you don't have your eyes on one fixed position on the road, you are always looking around checking. For example looking in the centre and wing mirrors ,turning your head to look at a possible danger spot such as a crossroads.

To me it is a totally pointless exercise relative to why you take the test, ie being able to see road hazards while driving

Re: Think I have failed the DVLA eye test

The visual field test is one the the important vision tests to find out how much you can see when looking straight ahead without moving your head or eyes.

I'm sat here now by the window concentrating on the screen and without turning my head or moving my eyes, I can 'see' movement out of the corner of my eye.

This link should explain it....

Mags
I have the field every 6 months at the hospital. The only difference is they test each eye not both together with glasses if worn. The outcome is the same to see where the visual blind area is.

Thats a good point AnnieS? When you take a dvla test it is
specifically for ndriving, when you attend a specialist he is
looking for all types of problems! In my case they allways
do the field test in a darkened and quiet room!
