Thursday A day not to forget

Good morning everyone from a very damp part of the country where the winds are reaching gale force.
Time for a day indoors by the fireside, unfortunately I have to go out to the war memorial for the moment of rememberance. I do it every year in rememberance of my family who died in the war and those who are putting their lives on the line for us today.
I trust everyone will observe a minutes silence at 11:00am whatever you are doing.

Good Morning AB, DS and Everyone and hope you alll have a good Thursday.

And I will be honouring the 2 minutes silence and thinking of all those brave soldiers, on all sides, who lost their lives for their country.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

- John McCrae

May they all still Rest in Peace

Remember Our Innocence

Eagerly they accepted the King’s shilling,
Fresh-faced youths responded to the call.
Most caught up in fervent patriotic naivety,
Keenly anticipating a glorious adventure.
Soon nationalistic fantasy confronted grim reality,
Youthful idealism was swiftly obliterated
Amidst a Hellorama of mud, screams and gore.
Those long dead boys call to the living,
When our war is a dusty recollection
Our motives misrepresented and misunderstood,
Please Remember Our Innocence.

Throughout history, animals have suffered and died as a result of human conflicts. Remember the animal victims of war this year by wearing a PURPLE poppy.

Maybe if you wish to remember animals in that way you should do it at a different time of year, it should not impinge on the human Remembrance, imo.

Why? I thought the animals and soldiers fought alongside each other in the wars?

Good morning all

We observed the silence, it always brings a tear to the eyes for the sadness of it all.

I don't see why animals can't be remembered, they gave their lives and they save lives to this day. They have no choice in the matter.

We have a picture which belonged to OH grandfather of a soldier saying goodbye to his injured horse in the first world war.

Think Animals Remembrace Day is Celebrated on the 24th of November.

Please leave me a day to just remember my Father and his comrades who died in WW2, this day is the 11th of November to remember
